Just like in London in 2012, you can watch Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman’s parents squirm in their seats as they watch their daughter go for gold in the 2016 Summer Olympics:
There is nothing better than watching your kid win it all. Whether it’s winning a championship game or acing a final exam, the moment is full of excitement and joy, and parents can finally let out a sigh of relief. However, during those tense moments, nerves creep in, and sweat might even start to trickle down a parent’s forehead. It could be a tough moment for some parents who just want their child’s hard work to finally pay off. Now, if you’re Aly Raisman’s parents, there is nothing more nerve-racking than watching your daughter compete and try to win an Olympic gold medal.
Aly Raisman is an American gymnast. She was the captain of the U.S. women’s gymnastics team at the 2012 summer Olympics in London, winning gold medals in the team and floor competitions. Raisman also won the bronze medal on the balance beam. With the Rio 2016 Olympics underway, Raisman and her U.S. team had to do it all again. On August 9, 2016, the women’s team, comprised of Simone Biles, Lauren Hernandez, Gabby Douglas, Madison Kocian, and Raisman obtained their second straight women’s team all-around win by posting a score of 184.897. While the U.S. team won the gold at the Rio games and put on a spectacular performance, Raisman’s parents also got some attention of their own.
Back in London in 2012, Raisman’s parents, Lynn and Rick Raisman, gave their own little performance in their seats while watching their daughter on the floor. Squirming back and forth, both mom and dad watched anxiously as their daughter continued her routine. Both Lynn and Rick were back at it again for this year’s summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and their squirming only got better. With over one million views on YouTube, Lynn is seen holding on tightly to her husband’s arm as they watch Aly crush it on the floor. Swaying back and forth in their seats, with mom commenting under her breath, it was a highly intense moment. When your child is going for gold in the Olympics, what parent wouldn’t act like Lynn and Rick Raisman? The quick routine ended with Aly’s parents applauding and her mom giving high fives. They certainly didn’t steal the show, but the Raismans certainly provided entertainment in the stands in their own way.
With the U.S. team taking home the gold, Lynn Raisman told the Boston Herald that she hopes the girls continue their success. “We are so proud and happy all the girls did well,” she said. She also added: “Hopefully, this is just the beginning of the medal ceremonies for the members of the Final Five.”
Surely that means that we’ll get to see a lot more of this talented team in future Olympic games and more hilarious videos of Aly Raisman’s parents squirming in their seats.
