The Truth About Female Friendship as told by besties Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. # 6 is so true!
Girls do things differently than guys, that’s a given. Guys will never understand why girls almost always go to the bathroom together with their friends, or why their cycles almost always align when around each other for a long period of time. There are some things that only girls do and that only girls get. Female friendships are intricate entities onto themselves and often withstand the test of time because of it. Amy Poehler and bestie Tina Fey have been friends for years and probably know a thing or two about friendships that stand the test of time. Check out some truths about female friendship as only presented by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.
1. Every time you see each other is basically a religious experience.
Let’s face it, you love your sister and every time you see each other you feel like the whole world stops. Unfortunately you’re usually the only one that feels this way and the rest of the world could care less. And every time you see your girlfriend, you’re convinced that you haven’t seen each other in ages, when the reality is that you both were at the club last weekend. But hey, girls have to stick together. Just don’t show up wearing the same outfit or the earrings will come off.
2. Because you’re both each other’s biggest supporter, and believe you’ll one day rule the world (more than you already do).
If your friend doesn’t have your back, then who -does? Sure, she’ll inflate your ego as much as she has to to make sure that you’re feeling ok, and hell, she’ll even straight up lie to your face if it’ll prevent you from crying. But what good is a friend if she won’t stand behind you 100%? This is something only female-kind will understand as men rarely do.
3. When you’ve been friends with someone as long as you two have, you start to copy each other’s mannerisms.
Women are impressionable creatures, which might explain why Aunt Flo tends to visit them around the same time whenever they spend a lot of time together. But did you ever think you’d find yourself finishing the sentences of anyone else other than your partner? Or what about having the same body language? It can happen if you spend time with someone long enough, and you don’t even have to be in love with them.
What’s the funniest thing that you and your best friend have ever done?
4. And when something bad happens to your bestie, it’s also happening to you.
People always say that women are more emotional than men. Or maybe that just means that women are more in tune with their emotions, giving them a higher emotional intelligence than men. Whatever the reason, women are generally much more empathetic and concerned about the feelings of those around them. It’s not that men are always insensitive, they just often have a hard time expressing their feelings.
Would you cut a bitch to protect your bestie?
5. There’s been at least one major thing you didn’t want to do, but your friend talked you into doing it.
Was it getting that ridiculous tattoo? Or perhaps it was convincing you to go out with that guy with the ponytail? Chances are, you’ve gone out on a limb based on some advice that your friend suggested. You really didn’t want to do it in the first place, so why did you? Because you’d follow your friend to the grave, trusting everything that they have to say and there’s nothing wrong with that.
6. You both pretty much have a secret language of looks, gestures, and tones, at this point.
You understand each other’s gibberish and inaudible quips, and often have your own sense of humor. While someone else might not understand your random “mmhhmm,” your best friend will definitely understand what you mean and can often translate for others. It’s not that you’re trying to exclude anyone from the conversation, this is just how far your relationship has evolved.
7. You have no problem telling your friend when they look like an idiot, because you’d expect the same thing in return.
Honesty is important in all relationships, and the standards are no different with your best girlfriend. You need to be able to trust your best friend, and be able to rely on her judgement. You want your friend to tell you when you’re dressed to the 2’s instead of the 9’s, or when you’re in the wrong about a situation. Female friends have each others back. Men would also want their bros to call them out if they were acting foolish. Expecting this level of honesty in a friend is not gender specific.
What do you think? Do you tell your bestie everything?
8. You can only be your most petty, obnoxious self in front of your bestie.
One of the best things about having a friend is that you can totally overreact to things and your friend will forgive you. You can let your hair down at all times and not worry about any major repercussions. Did your flat iron not straighten your hair correctly, or are you pissed because the DVR didn’t record the latest Property Brothers? You can call up your best bud and scream her ear off! That’s what friends are for.
