Dog and Kangaroo Are the Best of Friends
There are countless stories of unusual friendships between animals. Just like humans, animals are highly capable of feeling love, affection and loss. And just like us, they need a companion, too. There is a lot more to the stories we read of a dog and cat being the best of friends—or, more unusually, the close bond an animal as big as a lion can form with a small pup. These stories melt our hearts, but do you know why these different animals create such strong bonds with an unlikely friend? We know that animals, especially lions and dogs, are very social and place great value on relationships, so it isn’t surprising to see them creating their own friendships with a different species. There is even a term for the unusual bonding between two different species – interspecies friendship. These particular friendships have been reported a number of times between various animal species. Reasons include the need for social bonding or a need for protection, although sometimes, it is totally unknown why different species create lasting bonds with one another.
Stories of unlikely friendships have become so popular that many have gone viral. One especially beloved story is that of a dog and a kangaroo. The video of this unlikely pair has already reached over one million views. The clip, titled “Kangaroo and Dog Showing Their Love For Each Other,” shows Blue the kangaroo and Tropper, a Rottweiler, playing around on a grassy area in Australia. The two animals seem to be enjoying one another’s company because Trooper cannot stop wagging his tail as Blue continues to grab him and touch his head. The pair runs around in circles for a little over a minute. Blue even appears to be petting the Rottweiler’s head, as if he were a human giving praise to his pet dog. The video is extremely adorable and we can’t believe that a kangaroo and a dog can get along so well.
YouTube users loved watching this cute video of the two pals. One user even commented, “The best thing ever. The roo is like ‘Let me hug you goddamit!’ Dogs like ‘nah, hairy man, we play.’” One user even pointed out that the kangaroo has a collar and the dog doesn’t! We wonder who really stays indoors with this family. People are loving this pair, with many users commenting how much the video made their day and how they’ve never seen a duo like this play together and even get along. What users are especially enjoying about this video is the roo petting Trooper’s head. One YouTube user said, “He’s petting him, I’m dead,” expressing her bewilderment of the two playing like it isn’t a big deal. It is really crazy how well these two different species are bonding on the video. They love each other’s company and Tropper even rolls over as if he was playing with another dog. Unlike other videos and stories of different types of animals playing, this pair is really unique because we’d assume either one might be afraid of the other. However, it appears that they have been long time buddies and enjoy messing around together.
We are so glad this YouTube user shared this great video of a very unusual friendship. It isn’t rare to see unlikely species become friends. There have even been books written about it! New York Times bestselling author, Jennifer S. Holland, has even written a book titled, “Unlikely Friendships: 47 Remarkable Stories from the Animal Kingdom.” Her book tells the stories of different species coming together to form friendships we could never imagine. From a kitten and fawn to an iguana and house cats, these real-life relationships seem unreal. We love watching these videos and hearing stories about the special bonds different species of animals make with one another.
