If we’re having a bad day, we can always count on our pets to make us feel a little bit better. Work can be stressful at times, but coming home to your very happy dog that has been waiting all day to cuddle up next to you is sometimes all you need. But what do you do when you don’t have any pets? Well, if you’re walking through Chelsea in Manhattan, New York City, you might walk past Louboutina, or Loubie for short, who will happily greet any stranger with a hug.

Golden retriever Loubie is just like any other dog that enjoys a good walk around the park. Cesar, who is Loubie’s owner, takes this adorable 5-year-old dog around Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood and also enjoys a good stroll near the corner of 5th Avenue and 17th Street. What makes Loubie different than other pooches is that she really loves giving hugs. Cesar and Loubie frequently stand on the Manhattan streets and allow strangers to hug her, which can really help people brighten up their lousy days.

“Hugging and holding hands is her thing,” Cesar Fernandez-Chavez said, adding, “That’s her personality.” If there is a group of people who approach his dog, he says Loubie does her “Louboutina rounds,” which is when she sniffs everyone in the group. When she sits next to someone, they have to be prepared for the best hug they’ll ever receive.

Cesar admits that Loubie prefers humans to dogs. When Cesar was given Loubie as a gift after he went through a traumatic break-up, Loubie was there to help him move on. “That became our bonding,” Cesar said, adding, “Maybe she picked it up from me.” Today, Loubie is helping strangers on the streets of New York City by giving them something as simple as a paw shake or a hug. The cute pup also spends her time at the hospital where Cesar works at as an interpreter. “I just have to open my office door, and she goes and does her rounds for half an hour, hugging everyone,” he said.

Loubie has gotten a lot of attention on social media and television. She’s appeared on The “Today Show” and “Rachel Ray” and her Instagram page has more than 140,000 followers. Cesar mostly uploads photos of Loubie hugging many of the people in the city as well as photos of her on morning talk shows. If you are ever in or around the Chelsea area, make sure to get your very own hug from Loubie!
