Tennis pro Rafael Nadal may not have won the French Open, but he definitely won the hearts of thousands of people after helping a very distraught mother during one of his matches.

During a match in his native Mallorca, Nadal, paired with teenager Simon Solbas, was serving against John McEnroe and Carlos Moya in a charity doubles match. The tennis star was about to serve when he heard a woman who seemed to be in distress. The woman was looking for her daughter, who she lost in the stands. When Nadal stopped the play, the entire court searched for her missing daughter. Calling her name several times, the mom started to cry just like any other mother would. The entire crowd stood up to help her. Thankfully, the young girl was spotted and reunited with her mother. Both mother and daughter began to cry when they were together again. Once the young girl saw her mother, she burst out in tears and held out her arms for her mom to grab her and give her a big hug. Spectators applauded the emotional reunion before Nadal resumed the game.

Just before the short clip ends, it even looks like John McEnroe shed a tear after seeing the family reunite. It is a scary feeling to lose a child. Once reunited, you can’t help but burst into tears. Nadal definitely remains a hero in the mother’s eyes. His kind gesture shows that he is more than just a great athlete.

In fact, Nadal also supports many charities and foundations, showing that he is a good-hearted man. The tennis pro supports City Harvest, the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Small Steps Project. One in particular that Nadal supports is the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. The foundation celebrates the universal power of sport to bring people together as a force for good, passionately embodying the very spirit of sport while pursuing excellence, overcoming challenges, celebrating achievement, and winning against the odds. The foundation especially helps at-risk/disadvantaged youths. Other stars that support this foundation include tennis pros Andy Roddick, John McEnroe, and Martina Navratilova.

Many of these videos of Rafael Nadal stopping his tennis match have reached over 100,000 views. It seems that average, everyday people like to see celebrities help in any way they can. It’s good to know they also care about others who aren’t as fortunate as they.
